Guththila Kavya Sinhala is a collection of authentic Kaviya Sangitakampaya-Kaviya Bivanas by founders of the Sinhalese language known as Paranithi ce ce. This book features 1330 songs which are sung during major Buddhist festivals like Dipavamsa, Kataragama Puja, and Poya days. The only other book with this many songs is the Navaratri Ganapuja by Tiss Siddhartha; however, Guththila Kavya Sinhala comes with more up-to-date songs sung for everyday occasions like it's monthly almanac. The titles of the songs are derived from the names of the Upulvan, Upulis and Upulis, and sometimes from other names along with their family names. The original Sinhala songbooks were known as "Kaviya Sangitakampaya" (Sinhala: විදහ සංචාර කණ), meaning "The Golden Period of Kaviya Sangita". The Guththila Kavya Sinhala was commissioned by the Government of Sri Lanka with the kind assistance of the American nation. The book was compiled and edited by high school teachers, formerly employed at Ananda Vidyalaya College (now Robert de Mello College).
